This type of handmade Chenille Bedspread from the 1930's is often referred to as a "Summer Spread" because it is lightweight. This one is a beauty. The cotton sheeting is not-quite-white, a color I call Oatmeal. The browns and golds are just lovely. There is vertually no evidence of wear, but somehow, when it was in storage, several tiny holes were punched through it. The repairs I have made are with quarter-size pieces of lace, two or three on each side of the top section, below the pillow area. This photo is of the central motif. It is surrounded by open area, a border on the top of the bed and a relatively plain 'drop' with a narrow border outlining the entire edge. |
